Police Scotland Safety Cameras have confirmed that enforcement using temporary average speed cameras on the A75between Newton Stewart and Creetown. The measures form part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety along this section of the trunk road.
The cameras have been installed to encourage safer driving behaviour and to help reduce the risk of collisions. This stretch of the A75 is used by a mix of local traffic, commuters and heavy goods vehicles, making speed management an important factor for road safety.
The temporary average speed cameras use renewable energy, allowing them to be deployed in locations that were previously unsuitable for fixed infrastructure. Instead of recording speed at a single point, the system calculates a vehicle’s average speed over a measured distance. This approach is intended to support consistent compliance with the posted speed limit.
Police Scotland Safety Cameras already operate at several locations along the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway using mobile enforcement. By introducing temporary average speed cameras on selected sections of the road, mobile resources can be used elsewhere across the region.

While enforcement has been announced, no dates have been given for how long the temporary average speed cameras will remain in place.
